Had a great game this weekend. Unfortunately Sam and Cory couldn’t make it, but the remaining members of the group had a good time. In attendance was Read, Pete, Allen, Ron, and I. We decided to play at my house so this being the first game I decided to grill out before hand. I’ve been trying out Lump Charcoal since I can put it in my compost bin. Needless to say, as oppose to using matchlight, its been a bit hit and miss on lighting. I did not have enough newspaper handy for starting it, and screwed that up, so Read ran to the local gas station and bought lighterfluid and ice for any burns I might incur (kidding, the cooler was low). A little while later, the coals were hot, burgers, hot dogs and tempe (sp – for the vegan) was grilled.
As for the D&D (heh) we got rolling and had a good time. My dining room ended up being perfect for it. We set up the cooler 6 ft from the table and its only 10 ft from the kitchen for snacks, and 30 ft from the bathroom. Heh.
The party had ended the last session boarding hippogriffons with eladrin riders bound for Mithrendain. A group of harpies decided they looked like a nice slow meal (since the hippogriffs where now encumbered). So it was on. The fight was made memorable by Sam’s character falling from 100 ft and NOT dieing (he just went unconscious and was later saved), and Read jumping from his dying mount to grab (successful grab check) one of the harpies. It was not able to support total weight, so they slowly went down until they hit the canopy and basically took 40 ft of fall damage. It began raining eladrin, hippogriffs, and harpies at that point. Finally the fight ended and the party decided to walk the rest of the way to Mithrendain.
There they had to convince three council members that they were not a danger to the city. Successful skill challenge later (and the addition of Read’s new character) and they had found Milo in the Old Battery section of Mithrendain in an inn/tavern called the Waystop (owned by a drow actually). There they talked to Milo, who seems very down and has no interest returning to Faerun. The next day, council woman Vyndra came to visit the party, and asked for their help in a discrete matter. Her daughter is missing and…
At this point a quickling (evil!) entered the tavern, ran over, dropped a gem on the table and ran off. Outside the window a large spider walked into view. The gem exploded, spraying poisoned shards and web goo everywhere. The spider teleported in, grabbed the now unconscious Vyndra and teleported out the front door (that the quickling had left open). The party shook off the various effects (sleepy poison and immobilizing goo) and went after her. A robed bandaged man with Spriggan allies were waiting to receive. While the party was able to kill the spider at range, they were not able to stop the robed man from stepping up, grabbing Vyndra and teleporting away.
The party took out the spriggans, captured one, and had him talking in no time. One of the council members showed up, and agreed to let the party go after the council woman. Off they went. A short while later they headed down into a cave, and faced off against the cave’s guardians, a bunch of nasty spiders. Two swarms, a phase spider, and a phaseweb spider later the session was over.
Everyone seemed to have a good time, we got through a lot, and the atmosphere was much more laid back to me. But then, its my home. Can’t wait for the next game… only 12 more days.

It was good, but don’t worry, next time is not too far away.
